The region of Capel is a historical town located in the southwestern part of Western Australia. This region was initially named "Busselton" when the Western Australian government appointed a resident magistrate in 1838. Later on, it was renamed to Capel after the English town of the same name.

The significant landmarks in the region of Capel include the Capel River that flows to the southwestern coast, the Tuart Forests, the Capel Heritage Trail, and the 122-year-old Capel courthouse.

The Capel River has been an essential element to the region for many generations. It has been a vital source of water to the locals and indigenous populations, many of whom once lived around the river banks and fish its waters. In the present day, the Capel River remains an important source of water and nourishment, primarily for the agriculture and horticulture industries.

The Tuart Forest located near Capel is an essential ecological site in the region. This forest has been able to survive in the region due to its resistance to root rot and the phosphorus-poor soils underlying the area. The Tuart Forest is significant, as it hosts a broad range of flora and fauna species that are critical to the ecosystem.

The Capel Heritage Trail is an itinerary created by the Capel Shire Council to showcase the rich history of the area. This trail includes several prehistoric landmarks that exhibit the culture and history of the indigenous population that once inhabited the region. There are also several other historical sites showcasing the cultural influence and evolution of the region over time.

The Capel courthouse was built in 1898 and is an excellent example of the architecture of the period. This courthouse played an essential role in the administration of justice in the region and was the site of several milestones for the community, including the swearing-in of police officers and the reception of the first telephone in Capel.

One significant event in the region's history was the Capel River Bridge collapse in 1900. The bridge was built to connect the south and north banks of the river and was one of the most vital infrastructures at the time. The disaster resulted in the loss of nine lives and eight injuries, leaving the town in shock and mourning. The bridge was rebuilt, and its remains can still be seen today.

Capel is also the birthplace of several notable individuals such as cricketer Stan McCabe, former Australian rugby player Murray Hansen, and world-famous cross-country mountain biker Sam Hill.

The town of Capel has seen substantial changes since its establishment over a century ago. Despite its evolution, the region's history and heritage remain evident in the area's landmarks, with the locals proud of their town's rich and unique history. Today, Capel continues to thrive, and the town's vibrant community is committed to preserving the region's historical, ecological, and cultural assets, ensuring that this beautiful town remains a place to be remembered.
