Capel Local History
The region of Capel is a historical town located in the southwestern part of Western Australia. This region was initially named "Busselton" when the Western Australian government appointed a resident magistrate in 1838. Later on, it was renamed to Capel after the English town of the same name.

The bridge was built to connect the south and north banks of the river and was one of the most vital infrastructures at the time. The disaster resulted in the loss of nine lives and eight injuries, leaving the town in shock and mourning. The bridge was rebuilt, and its remains can still be seen today.
Capel is also the birthplace of several notable individuals such as cricketer Stan McCabe, former Australian rugby player Murray Hansen, and world-famous cross-country mountain biker Sam Hill.
